NAME

init - the first process started by the kernel

SYNOPSIS

init

DESCRIPTION

The init system-utility is the first process to be started by the kernel. It mounts /dev, /dev/pts, /sys and /proc, after which it invokes the /bin/sh utility as an interactive login shell, until the init process gets a SIGTERM or SIGKILL signal, after which it calls sync() and shuts down the machine. The init utility may only be started with a pid of 1.
